As a sponsor of the Electrical Problem, Rosendin challenged teams to learn a software tool called SCRUM and use it to create a plan to add floors to a partially occupied 10-story medical building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosendin awarded first place to the team from Cal Poly for displaying the best understanding of the project scope and costs, collective bargaining agreements, subcontractor solutions, safety protocols and how well they used SCRUM to manage daily priorities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Students from San Diego State University took second place and Oregon State University came in third out of nine participating schools in the Electrical Problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were so impressed by all the students in this year\u2019s Electrical Problem, but especially Cal Poly\u2019s team which displayed the most complete understanding of the commercial and practical challenges of adding floors to an occupied medical building,\u201d said Brandon Stephens, Rosendin Division Manager and ASC competition judge. \u201cEvery year Cal Poly sends a big group to the event because it\u2019s a great opportunity for the students to challenge themselves, meet recruiters, and discuss internships.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Stephens is among several Rosendin employees who competed at ASC when they were college students. The California based company also employs many Cal Poly alumni, including Ron Wilson, P.E., who was recently promoted to Vice President of Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a Construction Management 1986 graduate, I am so proud of everything the Cal Poly Team accomplished at this year\u2019s ASC Competition,\u201d said Wilson. \u201cThe university\u2019s philosophy to \u201clearn by doing\u201d is critical to students\u2019 success in the construction industry and it has definitely shaped my career.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Cal Poly\u2019s teams at the competition collectively brought home 9-awards, including:1st Place \u2013 Electrical Challenge, Heavy Civil Challenge, Commercial Challenge, Preconstruction Challenge, Project Management, Concrete Solutions; 2nd Place \u2013 Mixed Use Challenge, Mechanical Challenge; 3rd Place \u2013 Integrated Project Challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The ASC\u2019s 33rd annual competition attracted 1,540 top graduate and undergraduate college students and 130 faculty coaches from 53 universities. The competition features 16 construction project categories such as electrical, commercial, design-build, mixed use and sustainability.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\"
